Affiliate Programs

Once you have taken the decision to enter the affiliate marketing arena it's time to look for good affiliate programs and affiliate networks.

What's the difference?

An affiliate program is normally run by the merchant himself, there is no third party or broker involved. The merchant employs an affiliate system to hire affiliates, deals with them directly, supplies the affiliate links, the promotional materials and pays the affiliates their commissions.

On the other hand, an affiliate network is a system which manages products of several merchants, hires affiliates, collects the money from sales and processes payment of affiliate commissions. Once an affiliate joins the network, he will gain access to hundreds, sometimes thousands, of products from different merchants. He can choose the products he wants to promote and the affiliate network serves as a broker between the affiliates and the merchants.

Because almost all affiliate programs are free to join, you may be tempted to join multiple affiliate programs. In fact, there is no limit as to how many affiliate programs you can join. However, joining too many programs and attempting to promote them all at the same time will prevent you from concentrating on each one of them and most probably not realizing its maximum earning potential.

A word of caution: affiliate programs and affiliate networks work sometimes under different terms, rules and guidelines. It is important that you as an affiliate acknowledge these rules and abide by them.

Also please note that not all affiliate programs are made equal: there are good affiliate programs and there are bad affiliate programs. Stay away from affiliate programs that offer products of inferior quality that are difficult to sell, or have a history of bad dealing with its clients, or of failing to pay his affiliates.
